Massive to-do list

As we’ve reached the end of design development, I’m beginning to freak out a little at how much is still left to do. I need to finish off some design concepts for the outstanding areas:

  • kitchen
  • meals
  • lounge
  • laundry
  • exterior
  • alfresco

I might try modelling them in sketchup, and maybe revisit some of the ones I’ve already done. That stuff needs to get done before pre-start.

And I also still need to get demolition quotes.

And we have a massive post-handover list too. Some of it needs to get done before we move in, some can be done afterwards. This is what needs to get done before we move in:

  • Hot water system
  • Lighting
  • Painting
  • Flooring
  • Skirting boards
  • Alfresco paving
  • Letterbox
  • Driveway
  • Fence & gates
  • TV antenna
  • Clothesline
  • Landscaping
  • Blinds & Window dressings
  • Security screens on windows
  • Wardrobe fitouts

And the stuff we can leave until after we move in:

  • Doorbell
  • Additional cabinetry
  • Solar panels
  • Rainwater
  • Greywater
  • Security system
  • Attic Ladder

So the next lot of posts will have to be on designs, although I’m keen to get started on getting actual quotes for things as well.

Isn't this a marvellous pool?

  1. Your after handover-before moving in list scares me too. For both our sakes. Though I reckon you could move some of those to the after moving in list if you wanted to – but they are some of the smaller items. Glad to see grey water is on the after plan… I was worrying about that yesterday… thinking I should have had it sorted out already.

    • With the grey water, it’s a good idea to have the plumbing provisioned in but the actual system can be done at any time. Some things like the landscaping *could* be done afterwards, but I kind of don’t want to move into a house surrounded by a desert so it’s going into the “before” list! But yeah, I think I’m going to have to put on my project manager’s hat to get it all prioritised, organised and done. Can’t wait until it’s over and we can have a proper housewarming party!

  2. Looking at the pool and the type of features you have I reckon you should check out “natural swimming pools”

    • I love the natural swimming pools, they look amazing! I think our budget will only stretch to a pond or two at this stage though…
