Powder Room

I’ve been inspired by this blog and this blog  to try and gather some of my thoughts around what I want the interior of the house to look like. So I’m going to start with something really simple: the powder room. Probably not what you were expecting, but consider this a test run!

Here is the floorplan of the loo (by the way, updated floorplan sent for second costing is here):

You can’t really tell dimensions from this, but it is roughly 2.2 x 1.1 m. Bigger than what we’ve currently got.

When I think about this room, this is the picture I always see in my head:

I love the vibrancy, and those lights! Sadly haven’t been able to find anything remotely as fabulous yet though.

The mirror must surely be Venetian style, something like this:

Though the style must be modern (unlike this picture), I picture the vanity area looking a bit like this, with mirror, lights, and full vanity with drawers/cupboards:

I think the key here is dark colours, possibly a Prussian blue or deep plum.

Edit: I ended up finding another couple of swanky, more modern pics:

Left: I like the dangly asymmetrical light fitting.
Right: Better storage, nice feature wall.

Edit 2: I had a go at doing up a mood board thing:

  1. How nice of you to mention my blog! It’s funny you have picked your powder room first. I’ve left mine until last, because I just don’t know what to do with it. I guess after years of dreaming of kitchens, I know what I want – but the powder room, I just don’t dream of that!
I love that mirror. It already starts to define your style…

    • Heh, it’s funny but the kitchen is probably the room I’m most nervous about, because it’s going to be critical to get it right!
Glad you like the mirror 🙂 It’s probably a good thing I can’t find fabulous wall lights because I think it would be too overwhelming having both a fancy mirror and fancy lights.

  2. Your mood board is great. I love that blue. (Proof!: http://housebythewater.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/blueberries-and-olive-leaves/) Mirror and fancy lights look divine with it. Are you going to stick with your theme throughout your house, or vary room by room?

    • Thanks! Well, I want to keep a common thread throughout the house, but also want to vary things room by room. Was thinking of using the same tiles everywhere, and the same wall colour but perhaps very the intensity of the colour in different rooms, or use different accent colours throughout. I checked out your link – that’s a gorgeous colour!
