Our wonderful heatwave

As you’re probably all aware, we had a mother of a heatwave the other week, and we’re still feeling the effects. We don’t have air conditioning in our current residence (or the old one) and boy did we feel the heat!

A few weeks ago I posted about Josh’s House. I’ve been following his progress on Facebook, and he had some interesting data on how his house performed during the heatwave. This is what he wrote:

“We’ve had a lot of interest in how our house performed during the recent hot spell. The inside temperature peaked at 28.5 degrees. This is warmer than we’ve been used to, but still OK with the ceiling fans on. After a cool night last night the house returned to a very comfortable 24-25 degrees today. Meanwhile the PV’s have been pumping out 18-20 kWhrs/day, and power usage has been steady at around 10kWhrs/day.”

Now, his house has a 10-star rating, so our performance may not be as good (due mainly to site orientation), but I’m hoping it will be close! It’s encouraging to see these sorts of stats and it makes me more confident that our design will perform well.
