Guest bedroom

I want to do something a little bit daring with the guest bedroom. We have a wrought iron bed base with blue inserts which we’re planning on using, and also a wrought iron and crystal chandelier. At the moment, I’m thinking “industrial glam”. Bear with me a moment! Apparently it’s even a thing.

So the existing furniture looks something like this:

Current bedroom furniture looks something like this.

Iron = industrial, crystal = glam, right?

(Though the furniture seems to look nicer in the picture; I maintain that’s because we haven’t decorated properly, but you get the gist.)

I was initially inspired by these sorts of soft, feminine type styles, even with stronger colour such as the one below:

A bit more austere, but clean and simple.

And I almost convinced myself that that was the way to go, as when I was researching “wrought iron bed” and “blue”, those are the sorts of images I found.

But then I saw this:

Strong and warm.

Love it! I love the strength and contrasts. But I dunno, would it work with our bed? How to make something like that work? This is one of many cases where I just lack the skill to pull this sort of look together, which is why I’m so keen on using an interior designer.

There are some great mock wood and brick wallpapers available today, I’d be interested in maybe looking at using something like that to give the room a bit of edge.

So here’s a mood board I’ve come up with:

If all else fails, I can just paint the walls grey or blue, I suppose, and with the right bedding it should still look pretty. But I would consider that either a cop-out or a budgetary necessity.

  1. I love your mood board, but I’d restrict the wall covering to just one of those. Right now I’m having an exposed brick fetish, so if I was feeling brave I’d go for that. But what have you decided about an external brick feature? Could be tied?

    • Yeah I just put the different ones on to see the comparison between the different types. I think I’m leaning towards the brick too. As for the external brick feature, I think we probably won’t go with it; considering some feature tiling instead. But we may end up running out of money so we’ll probably end up with just plain old render!
