Ensuite, Pt 2. The Vanity

I hope you all had a good Christmas, and trust you didn’t find the Dr Who Xmas special *too* confusing.

We’re taking it pretty easy – I thought we’d get lots of house things done but we kind of need a bit of a break. Having said that, we whipped into Ossie Park today and sorted out the dimensions of the spa, and also popped into Kitchen Headquarters for a bit of a look-see at the appliances. I think I might pop along to one of their cooking demonstrations to see how their various ovens work.

Anyway, this post is mostly about the vanity in the ensuite. So, storage, pretty important right? My current bathroom doesn’t fit all my stuff in it, so I’m wanting lots of storage in the bathroom now. And specialised: I want specific compartments for specific things, rather than massive drawers or cupboards in which I will probably lose things. I want shelves of varying height, and tall enough to fit the really tall hairspray can.

So, ignoring the style, this is my storage inspiration pic (style-wise I want it to look more modern):

What I like about this is that it has two distinct prep areas, with a shared console in the middle. I also like the raised bit – keeping splashing water at bay. Imagine a row of slim drawers down the middle, maybe, for hair stuff, makeup, etc.

Or maybe instead of in the middle, we have separate his & hers compartments on each side (though I suspect that will cost more):

I really like this next picture. I can imagine storing makeup and some jewellery here, will make it a lot easier to get ready in the morning, instead of having to flit about between mirrors and such:

The problems with all of the above pictures are:

  • I want a wall-hung vanity, and those are not.
  • I want a more modern style.

I’m thinking stone countertop, maybe, or maybe have the basins as the standout feature. Either way, it will need to tie in with the rest of the bathroom.

I’ve also been obsessing a bit over tapware, and the result of many hours online is my utter fascination with this:

The only problem is the knobs look a bit difficult, so will have to test it out in the showroom.
