An event-ful month ahead

I got excited when I received my latest ATA newsletter and wanted to tell you all about this event they mentioned. And then I found a couple of other interesting-looking house-related events happening in the next couple of months, and I thought I’d share them with you too. So here they are.

  • Perth Garden Festival

“The Perth Garden Festival is WA’s most prestigious gardening and outdoor lifestyle event. Alongside stunning displays, the festival has an exciting and diverse program of entertainment for the young and old.” Bonus points for being able to bring your dog. As you might expect, there are lots of gardening seminars by prominent WA garden celebs, including my favourite Josh Byrne, who will be presenting “Green Gardening Goodness“.

When: Thursday 30th April to Sunday 3rd May 2015
Where: McCallum Park in Victoria Park
Who’s running it: Nursery & Gardening Industry Western Australia (NGIWA)
Cost: $20 adult. You can get a free double pass if you volunteer
    Website:  http://perthgardenfestival.com.au

  • Kings Park Native Plant Sale
The famous annual native plant sale. All plants are grown from cuttings collected in the Kings Park Nursery or the Botanic Garden, from seeds collected from plants grown in Kings Park or from commercial Western Australian seed suppliers. Kings Park Volunteer Master Gardeners are present at each sale to provide free advice on planting and looking after your plants. A list of the plant species on sale is available on the Friends of Kings Park website prior to each sale. I’m keen to go to this but am unsure if I’ll have my landscaping plans sorted out by then.

    When: Sunday 17 May 2015 08:30am – 12:00pm
    Where: Kings Park, Perth
Who’s running it: Friends of Kings Park
    Cost: Unknown
    Website:  http://www.bgpa.wa.gov.au/kings-park/events/events-calendar/event/1147-native-plant-sale

  • Speed Date a Sustainability Expert
This is the one that got me excited. I really wish this event was on my radar when I was looking at designers, as it was hard to differentiate between the ones who were serious about solar passive design and the ones who just seemed to pay lip service. This event consists of around 10 experts who you can sit down with and chat about whatever you want.

    When: 27 May 2015 @ 5:30 pm8:30 pm
Where: Coogee Beach Surf Lifesaving Club20 Poore Grove, Coogee
Who’s running it: The ATA in partnership with City of Cockburn
Cost: Free, but registration is required

  1. oooh! sounds great!
Are you going to the speed dating one? It sounds like it’d be fun!

    • It’s a bit far for me to drive so I’m umming and ahhing at this point. But I’m taking note of the participants, I want to talk to the solar guys so even if I can’t make it I can at least call them up. I always appreciate it when people are willing to give out free advice.

  2. I wanna go! Maybe next year. Minus the speed dating.

  3. Thanks for the heads up on these events – would love to go to the Perth Garden Festival as I’m also a big fan of Josh Byrne.
The speed dating is an interesting idea.
I’ve forwarded the ATA link on to my better half as that is right up his alley.
Let me know if you want the contact for the solar people we are using as my better half found them pretty good. ☺

    • I’m planning on going to the garden show again, last time I went was a couple of years ago. It’s how I found out about grey water systems. Oh and I’d love a recommendation Deb, thanks!
